Capitol Broadcasting leads investors in new coding firm Momentum Learning

Capitol Broadcasting is the lead investor in a new coding school startup, Momentum Learning, that will be operate in Durham and Raleigh.

Momentum is led by two former executives with The Iron Yard, a coding school that has ceased operations. It offered courses in the Triangle.

Jessica Mitsch, the founding CEO, confirmed that CBC, which is the parent company of WRAL.com and WRAL TechWire as well as American Underground where Momentum will be based, led the recently disclosed funding of $400,000.

And Mitsch says Momentum is ramping up rapidly.

“We have already selected and hired our first group staff,” she says.

“We will be looking to bring on additional instructors in late Spring 2018 along with a Campus Program Manager for Raleigh.”

Clinton Dreisbach is Momentum’s co-founder and serves as CTO.

The company is “starting with a team of five employees to get us launched. In our hiring plan for next year, we expect to have 6-7 full-time employees in Durham and 3-4 full-time employees in Raleigh [About]10 total full-time staff in year one. Both locations will also have part-time contract instructors and teaching assistants.”

Momentum and the American Underground formally announced the launch of the new training centers today, describing the relationship as a “partnership.”

Offerings will include a 3-month course for software developers. Offerings are expected to begin next spring.

The firm aso says it will provide “customized training for organizations and has already taught its first custom training for a local software company.”

A variety of part-time classes for developers also will be offered.

“Momentum will make the Triangle’s tech talent pool even richer, boosting our national standing and benefiting everyone from our startups to our maturing companies to our full fledged corporate juggernauts,” said American Underground Executive Director Doug Speight in a statement.

“We look forward to watching Momentum graduates move through the ranks, supporting our culture of innovation and perhaps becoming startup founders themselves.”
