DURHAM – ArchiveSocial is acquiring NextRequest, and will expand the company’s employee base to 126 people after the acquisition, with additional growth planned, Nancy Vodicka, a spokesperson for ArchiveSocial, tells WRAL TechWire.
ArchiveSocial provides software to government agencies, law enforcement officials, and K-12 school districts to capture and archive in-context records of information shared on social media, enabling compliance with existing record-keeping regulations.
NextRequest provides software that empowers governments to manage public records requests, such as Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and bills itself as the all-in-one records request platform.
According to Vodicka, the NextRequest service is complementary, and it helps government communicators easily manage and process FOIA requests.
“The combination simplifies the entire process of requesting, retaining, and producing public records by providing a comprehensive solution for governments and schools of all shapes and sizes,” said Vodicka.
ArchiveSocial is in the process of growing, noted Vodicka, noting that the company is hearing from existing customers about challenges in navigating public records requests.

“This acquisition reinforces an ArchiveSocial key objective of strengthening the public’s trust through digital communication compliance and making digital communication compliance easy for government communicators,” said Vodicka. “It’s a great next step in our growth – to acquire the leading provider of FOIA software, making it easy for government communicators to manage public records requests.”
Both companies participated in a Code for America fellowship, according to a statement from Ray Carey, ArchiveSocial CEO. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. ArchiveSocial will grow by 25% with the acquisition, said Vodicka, and is planning to hire additional employees for future growth.
