As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Brennan Barber, CEO of Theralinq, based in Raleigh, NC. Theralinq is a health tech platform improving pediatric therapy, increasing clinic revenue, reducing family expenses, and strengthening therapist-family engagement.
Q: What problem are you trying to solve, and what influenced you to start your company?
A: My lived experience as a parent of a child with a disability was influential in the launch of the company. I saw the gaps that existed in the pediatric therapy space when it came to effective coordination around care plan management beyond the walls of a clinic. As I continued to become more ingrained in the space, I could see that clinics faced significant challenges as well due both to systemic structural issues in healthcare and the growing demand for services. At Theralinq, we’ve built a product that can address the needs of families and therapists by helping clinics provide better services to help improve outcomes, become more profitable, and enable families to manage therapy in a way that better meets their needs.
Q: What are you most excited about right now? What keeps you up at night?
A: I’m most excited about the opportunity that exists in this space. The healthcare landscape is primed to welcome innovative new products that disrupt the status quo and dramatically improve outcomes. What keeps me up is what I perceive as the speed at which change is happening and ensuring that we’re at the forefront. Healthcare is very top of mind at this moment, and I think we’ll continue to see more players entering this space.
Q: When did you know you wanted to take an entrepreneurial path?
A: I’ve known for the better part of the last 20 years that I wanted to be an entrepreneur and build a product that would have a lasting impact. For the longest time I just didn’t know what that product would be – something that I was passionate about. My business school experience at Duke pushed me further down this path, particularly health sector management and venture capital courses. My professional experience over the last better half of a decade gave me the real-world insights, network, and confidence to ultimately make the leap.
Q: What have you enjoyed most about starting your own company?
A: What I have found most enjoyable is the opportunity to build a product that I know can benefit others. We’re a two sided market, and one segment of our users is representative of a vulnerable population in our society. Providing these individuals with an opportunity for an improved life makes the mission incredibly worthwhile, even during the toughest times. The progress isn’t always linear, but our North Star is ever-present.
While visiting the Triangle, Brennan recommends:
- I’d recommend checking out the parks and green spaces throughout the Triangle. The Museums in Raleigh are great – The North Carolina Museum of Art is a favorite of mine. Both Raleigh and Durham have some fantastic restaurants to choose from. Traditional bbq and southern cuisine are musts for first time visitors from outside of the region.
