Meet Our Founders: Oliver and Penny Pau

Oliver and Penny Pau

Dojo Fresh – MICRO Fall 2022

Published May 10, 2023

As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Oliver and Penny Pau, Founders of Dojo Fresh based in Cary, NC. Dojo Fresh produces a plant-based food mix that enables users to easily make a protein-rich meat alternative product to their taste.

Q: What problem are you trying to solve and what influenced you to start your company?

A: Health is a primary driver for many people (including us) who are eating less or no meat. Our customers are looking for meatless options that are not highly processed, made with clean ingredients and reflect their wide range of taste preferences. Our Doutan plant protein mix enables our users to make a meatless meal that is easy, healthy and enjoyable.

Q: What are you most excited about right now? What keeps you up at night?

A: We are most excited when people tell us that they enjoy our products. The opportunity to engage with the community at in-person markets and events and through social media provides the encouragement and motivation to continue our work. We will sleep well at night if we have given you our best today and can be better tomorrow.

Q: What is your favorite local business to support?

A: We love going to our local farmer’s markets on Saturday mornings. It’s the best place to find locally grown and produced foods/crafts, and to gather as a community. It is also the entry point for many entrepreneurs who have a passion to share and want to start their own business.

While visiting Cary, Oliver and Penny recommend:

  • Have brunch at La Farm Bakery. Take a walk around Bond Lake. Pick up some local products at Elk Local Foods. Visit Taipei Cafe and order off their Real Homestyle Chinese menu.
