A TV show that filmed in Wilmington last year has been nominated for three Daytime Emmy Awards, the gold standard for awards in daytime television.

The PBS docuseries "Start Up," which features host Gary Bredow taking a look at the inner workings of small, start-up businesses from around the country, shot five of its 13 episodes in Wilmington last year.

Those episodes featured Wilmington businesses TRU Color Brewery, Bitty and Beau's Coffee, End of Days Distillery, the Genesis Block business development center and Sea Love Sea Salt.

The PBS series START UP is in the Wilmington area filming at End of Days Distillery in Wilmington.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the nominations on May 5.

"Start Up" got Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Writing Team for a Daytime Non-Fiction Program; Outstanding Daytime Program Host for host Gary Bredow; and Outstanding Casting, essentially a thumbs-up for the businesses the show elected to focus on.

START UP, a series about entrepreneurship that airs on PBS, is in the Wilmington area filming at local breweries, distilleries and coffee shops.

“I really appreciated how (the show) highlighted the start-up struggles and challenges but allowed our business to have a very positive vibe," Shane Faulkner with End of Days Distillery told PBS for a story on its website. "The exposure was also a huge benefit."

Jim R. Roberts with the Network for Entrepreneurs in Wilmington, a nonprofit organization, said his group was responsible for inviting the show to Wilmington and sourced the companies that appeared on the show.

“One thing we were blown away by was the social entrepreneurship in Wilmington," Bredow told the StarNews last year. “We are really impressed with the startup ecosystem here."

Winners of 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be announced live June 24 during CBS and the Paramount+ streaming service.
