RALEIGH – The Raleigh-based digital health startup VitalFlo will partner with Vitalograph to provide what it called in a statement “smart respiratory health monitoring.”

The partnership will enable patients to “perform reliable lung function tests anytime, anywhere as a critical element in the ongoing management of their respiratory health,” according to the statement.

Vitalograph is a provider of respiratory diagnostic products and clinical drug trial services, and has been operating for about 60 years.

The partnership with VitalFlo will enable Vitalograph’s clinical teams to provide what the company calls “proactive and routine management of respiratory diseases and conditions” through remote monitoring.

The partnership will rely on the use of Vitalograph’s spirometry device and the VitalFlo platform.

“For us, the key characteristics we look for in spirometry devices are accuracy, ease of use, and affordability,” said Luke Marshall, CEO of VitalFlo, in a statement.  “Vitalograph is a great fit for us as we strive to bring lung function testing and monitoring to the patient.”

Raleigh medtech VitalFlo lands $2.14M, aims to scale, add jobs

Building on prior successes

VitalFlo raised $2.14 million in capital last year, with plans to scale the company’s employee base in Raleigh and the company’s second location in Portland, Oregon.

In 2019, the company raised $200,000 from 10 investors.  VitalFlo also won a $50,000 NC IDEA SEED grant and raised $75,000 from The Launch Place, after winning the organization’s Big Launch Challenge in 2018. In addition, the startup has also won a NASA future contest and the North Carolina State Lulu eGames.

It launched commercially in 2020. With the onset of the global coronavirus pandemic, there became an increased focus on remote monitoring, Marshall said at a November 2020 event hosted by NC RIoT.

“This is a very exciting opportunity to work with VItalFlo because they see healthcare as a connected whole,” said Troy Pridgeon, executive vice president at Vitalograph, in a statement.  “A digitally transformed space helping patients and healthcare workers to manage and prevent illness more quickly, conveniently, and seamlessly. ”
