As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Brewer Logan, CEO of Verenovo Energy based in North Wilkesboro, NC. Verenovo Energy‘s goal is to manufacture agricultural products sustainably, add value to waste biomass, and re-invent our current energy and food supply chains.
Q: How will your NC IDEA grant funds advance your company?
A: Our first product to market is biochar. This is no longer a niche product and others are trying to get into the space. Unfortunately, poor product is being produced that in some cases can cause negative effects. Verenovo will use NC IDEA funds to gain certifications on our product. Both the content and the way it is manufactured will be globally certified with the highest standards so we can create trust in the market.
Q: What is one thing you wish you understood about entrepreneurship before you ever got started?
A: The difficulty of starting a company will always exist, but I could have made it easier by being more focused and confident. I have received so much advice that was sometimes contradictory that caused me to take a direction that didn’t really move the company forward. Understanding the fine line between taking advice and sticking with your gut would have made this journey much more efficient.
Q: Who do you look to for advice and mentorship?
A: Dr. James Campbell, an early Verenovo board member, has been an invaluable asset to the company. His innovative mind and extensive experience in the field of science and entrepreneurship have been instrumental in shaping the direction of the company. As a mentor, his guidance has also been crucial to my personal growth.

- Wilkes County is a gem that unfortunately gets overlooked. If you are heading to Boone, stop in Wilkes on the way and enjoy some great food and treats at Dom’s Bakery, coffee at Anchor, and if you have kids, let them burn some energy while having fun at The Block.
