As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Cade Spector, CEO of GreySun Technologies based in Raleigh, NC. GreySun Technologies is a sleek and fashionable wearable breathalyzer with Bluetooth capabilities for associated smartphone app.
Q: What problem are you trying to solve and what influenced you to start your company?
A: My oldest brother Grey took his life in 2020. Our company is looking to play our part in the cultural shift to destigmatize mental health, prioritize, and overcome the American mental health epidemic. We will/ do this through innovative technology that empowers individuals to be proactive with their mind and body.
Q: What are you most excited about right now? What keeps you up at night?
A: I’ve been working on the wearable breathalyzer for over 4 years now, but the app our team has been working on for the past 2 months — set to come out before the band — is an incredibly exciting shift. The new and relatively unexplored potential has introduced a massive surge of creativity, action, and discomfort which I love.
Q: Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
A: My older brother Grey. He has always been my mentor in life — he played lacrosse so I did. He loved chess and was a top speech and debate national competitor; and he took me under his wing in all these things he excelled at, teaching me to be proactive and eventually leading the way to Duke University and the study of philosophy (our major there).
Although he took his life in March of 2020, he has never been my mentor more than he has been these last three and a half years.
