Published December 15, 2022

As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Kathryn Dunn, Founder of Nurtured Nest based in Holly Springs, NC. Nurtured Nest supports hospital maternity units, OB providers, and the families they serve with a variety of on-demand perinatal education.

Q: What problem are you trying to solve and what influenced you to start your company?

A: My passion for education and my experience as a parent influenced me to begin Nurtured Nest. My goal in partnering with hospitals is to provide patients with top-notch education that they can access on their own schedules while the hospital staff focuses on providing outstanding medical care. I also envision parents having our platform beyond childbirth as a trusted source of parenting education that will allow them to feel confident in their decisions and enjoy parenthood.

Q: What are you most excited about right now? What keeps you up at night?

A: I’m so excited to bring to life version 2 of our 7 perinatal classes. In July we begin a partnership with UNC Rex and that partnership has had our team working hard to polish our product from script to on-screen video. We’ve added a cinematographer to our team which will up the engagement of our videos.

Lots of things keep me up at night these days but I’m not sure it’s anything terrible. Most of the time the next big ideas are flowing in my head and I’m trying to remind myself to focus. The past 3 years have been an incredible journey that I could have never predicted. One thing I have learned that helps me sleep at night is to have faith in the process. If you are putting good energy out and taking the next right step, the next right thing will come–even if it’s not what you expected.

While visiting Holly Springs, Kathryn recommends:

  • If you were to trek 20 minutes south of Raleigh to visit Holly Springs I would suggest coming on a Saturday morning to enjoy the farmer’s market that our town puts on each Saturday at the cultural arts center. Typically there is live music, a wide variety of vendors, and lots of friendly faces. Afterwards you can walk up to main street for a coffee or tea at Sir Walter or lunch at my personal favorite, Osha.

  • Share our information with young families in your life! Parent education can be a taboo topic–most folks feel parenting should come natural. The truth is that parenting is a learned skill. By friends and families encouraging one another to participate in parent education classes from Nurtured Nest, we can help build parenting confidence and reduce the stigma that you shouldn’t need help during your parenting adventure.
