As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Keith Charvonia, Founder of Charvonia Design based in Huntersville, NC. Charvonia Design’s Billet Tie Downs are a stronger, more useful and better looking replacement for your truck’s tie downs.

Q: What problem are you trying to solve and what influenced you to start your company?

A: The idea for Billet Tie Downs happened when I was tired of ratchet strap hooks falling out of the stock tie down anchors in my Tundra. Not only that, the factory tie downs anchors were chipped up and rusty. I fired up my CAD software and designed a better version, then prototyped a set and tested them until I knew they were ready to offer to other truck enthusiasts. The response was overwhelming, so I made more and more parts to keep up with demand, then one day I realized this could actually be my full time gig!

Q: What have you enjoyed most about starting your own company?

A: The thing I enjoy most about starting my own company is the autonomy and sense of limitless growth that it provides. I get to decide what the priority is each day when I go to work, which can be a lot of pressure but is also liberating after working for others. I really believe that the sky is the limit, and know that the harder I work, the more successful the company will become. Like they say, luck happens when preparation meets opportunity!

Q: What other passions do you have besides your business?

A: Besides running my business, I am very very passionate about family, customizing cars and racing. One of my boys races quarter midgets, while my other son is in Boy Scouts plus archery, flag football and band. You can usually find me crew chiefing my youngest son’s race cars on the weekends and playing trumpet with my older son every other night of the week. I also always have a car project going on. I am currently building a traditional model T roadster, and I also have a chop top ’51 Kaiser and a lifted Land Cruiser in the stable.

While visiting the Charlotte area, Keith recommends:

  • If you come to Charlotte, you have to check out the motorsports culture. Start at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, then tour all of the NASCAR teams.
