As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Scott Monroe, CEO and Co-Founder of Essential Personnel based in Wilmington, NC. Essential Personnel is a B2G SaaS performance development and wellness solution built for public safety agencies.
Q: What problem are you trying to solve and what influenced you to start your company?
A: As a former professional firefighter, I realized that generic HR softwares didn’t fit the operational characteristics of public safety. I used my knowledge and experience from the Marine Corps to build a holistic solution purpose-built to build strong teams for paramilitary organizations.
Q: How will your NC IDEA grant funds advance your company?
A: We largely bootstrapped our company. We were able to build a product, get customer-adoption and also bring together our team. The funds were an awesome way (that came at a perfect time) to enhance our sales efforts.
Q: Who do you look to for advice and mentorship?
A: Mentors and key advisors are absolutely critical. I have several that I lean on heavily. We built an Advisory Board just for that purpose. If you think you know it all … you are wrong. Find people that will “War game” with you and bring different opinions.
While visiting Wilmington, Scott recommends:
- Find (or make) a friend with a boat and go to Mason’s Inlet. Eat breakfast @ Drift, lunch @ Savorez and dinner @ Seabird.
