Redefining Economic Development through Entrepreneurship
In November 2019, NC IDEA hosted the first-ever statewide Ecosystem Summit with the ambition to redefine economic development through entrepreneurship. The Summit was an unprecedented gathering of nearly 500 individuals and organizations who support, encourage and nourish North Carolina’s entrepreneurs. The 2019 Ecosystem Summit centered on the theme of “Redefining Equitable Economic Development,” steering our discussions and demonstrating how entrepreneurship fuels innovation and elevates our state to new heights.
The inspiration for the Summit comes from the North Carolina Entrepreneurial Council, established by Governor Roy Cooper in 2019. This event promotes broad participation across the state while recognizing the unique circumstances of each region and moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach to economic development. The Ecosystem Summit aims to expand economic development practices by investing in the entrepreneurial potential of all North Carolinians, helping them start and grow companies that will create jobs for future generations.
