As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Brewer Logan, CEO of Verenovo Energy based in North Wilkesboro, NC. Verenovo makes superior biochar, clean energy, and patented tech that can scale the industry—unlocking carbon credits and industrial decarbonization.
Q: How will your NC IDEA grant funds advance your company?
A: The NC IDEA funds have kept us in operation and will likely lead to the closing of millions of dollars in revenue when we close the initial contracts.
Q: What have you enjoyed most about starting your own company?
A: Being able to make the decisions I wish I could when I worked for someone else. I have been at the table in corporate America to help direct a company, but was not given the voice or authority to actually do it. In some cases, my ideas were outright stolen and attributed to someone else. Now there is no wall blocking my team’s and my desire for innovation.
Q: Who do you look to for advice and mentorship?
A: Those who have actually done the work. I don’t care about degrees or accolades; I care about the scars. I want to learn from others who have already made the mistakes, not someone who has read about the mistakes others have made. I want someone who has been in the trenches with dirty hands, who can tell me like it is with no fluff.
Q: What other passions do you have besides your business?
A: My faith, my family which includes my wife and three kids, music, and anything that is competitive.
