As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Lacey Gotshall, Founder and CEO of The Horse Concierge based in Raeford, NC. The Horse Concierge connects horse owners to trusted providers and tools—your all-in-one equine lifestyle companion for care, collaboration, and convenience.
Q: What problem are you trying to solve and what influenced you to start your company?
A: Most horse owners struggle to find trustworthy, specialized providers, while professionals lack the tools to see the whole picture of a horse’s care. Information lives in text threads, paper notes, and scattered apps—making collaboration nearly impossible. This fragmentation leads to miscommunication, delayed treatment, and missed insights that could change outcomes.
The Horse Concierge solves this by connecting owners to verified providers and equipping those providers with tools to view each horse holistically—combining health records, care updates, and activity data in one shared ecosystem. By bridging care and communication, The Horse Concierge elevates the quality of equine care across the industry.
Q: What are you most excited about right now? What keeps you up at night?
A: I’m most excited about watching The Horse Concierge evolve from an idea born out of my own horse’s recovery into a nationwide platform transforming equine care. Seeing providers and owners connect through tools that actually make their lives easier—and horses healthier—is incredibly rewarding. We’re finally bringing technology and collaboration to an industry that has operated in silos for too long.
What keeps me up at night is scaling it responsibly. The demand is there, but I’m determined to maintain integrity, accuracy, and trust as we grow. Balancing innovation with reliability—ensuring every feature truly helps both horse owners and providers—is the challenge that drives me forward every day.
Q: How will your NC IDEA grant funds advance your company?
A: The NC IDEA grant will directly accelerate development of The Horse Concierge Provider Portal—the next major step in connecting horse owners and professionals through shared care data. These funds will allow us to expand our engineering capacity, enhance database infrastructure, and integrate tools that let providers view each horse holistically. By building this foundation now, we can transition from a directory-style app to a collaborative care platform that elevates communication, improves outcomes, and sets new standards in equine management. In short, the grant will move us from proof of concept to scalable impact.
Q: What have you enjoyed most about starting your own company?
A: What I’ve enjoyed most about starting The Horse Concierge is watching an idea born out of my own struggle turn into something that’s helping others. Seeing real horses and owners benefit from the tools I’ve built—especially when a provider says it’s making their job easier—reminds me why I started. I love the freedom to create, to problem-solve without limits, and to see direct results from every decision. Most of all, I’ve enjoyed building something meaningful that combines my professional skill set with my lifelong passion for horses. It’s deeply personal, and every milestone feels like proof that purpose and innovation can coexist.
