As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Samantha Coffin, Owner of Matcha Nude based in Arden, NC. Matcha Nude is organic Japanese matcha that actually tastes good, fuels your day, and fits seamlessly into your life—with planet-friendly compostable packaging.
Q: What problem are you trying to solve and what influenced you to start your company?
A: I started Matcha Nude to solve a problem I faced myself: finding matcha that’s affordable, actually tastes good, is organic, free of additives, and sustainable. When I gave up coffee, I fell in love with how matcha made me feel—calm, focused, and energized. But I quickly realized there weren’t many options that fit my budget or aligned with my values.
That’s when Matcha Nude was born. I wanted to create a matcha that’s not just delicious and premium-quality but also accessible and planet-friendly. Our compostable packaging and commitment to ethical sourcing reflect the belief that wellness should empower us all without compromising the Earth. Matcha Nude exists to make this incredible tea—and lifestyle—available to everyone!
Q: How will your NC IDEA grant funds advance your company?
A: This funding is a game-changer, helping us grow faster and bring even more delicious, sustainable matcha to as many as possible. With this grant, we’re expanding our team, creating exciting new products, upgrading our facility, and boosting production to reach even more matcha lovers. We have seen such great organic growth but this grant is going to empower us to take our business to the next
Q: What is one thing you wish you understood about entrepreneurship before you ever got started?
A: One thing I wish I understood before starting my entrepreneurial journey is that you don’t have to have all the answers. You truly don’t know what you don’t know until you’re in the thick of it—but that’s okay! The resources are out there, and people genuinely want to help. You’re not alone, and you can absolutely figure it out as you go. It’s a learning process, and that’s part of the adventure.
Q: What other passions do you have besides your business?
A: Outside of my business, I’m passionate about hiking—especially chasing waterfalls! Being outdoors is my happy place. I also care deeply about promoting a more realistic approach to health and wellness, along with education around endometriosis and fertility challenges. Above all, I love inspiring people to believe that we all deserve to live big, beautiful lives and showing them that it’s possible, no matter what resources we have.

- If you’re visiting Asheville, you’re in for a treat! First, grab a matcha latte at one of the many local coffee shops that carry Matcha Nude (we’ve got a map to help you find them!). Then, head out for a hike—our waterfalls are absolutely magical and a must-see. When it’s time to eat, you’ll find something for every craving, but I personally adore Limones. Their dishes are unforgettable!
