Tatyana Thurston & Natalia Parker
Dexit – MICRO Spring 2024
Published September 11, 2024
As part of our ‘Meet Our Founders’ series today, we introduce Tatyana Thurston (Founder and CEO) and Natalia Parker (COO) of Dexit based in Charlotte, NC. Dexit’s mission is to help estate planning professionals incorporate their clients’ digital assets, accounts and online legacy into their estate plans. We provide software as a service which creates an online footprint of their clients’ accounts and provide technical guidance for the account data management.
Q: What problem are you trying to solve and what influenced you to start your company?
A: Our lives are intertwined and dependent on our accounts online. After having written my own will for my family, I had assigned my brother to be an executor. I also realized how many accounts he would have to manage and have access to in order to fulfill his fiduciary duties… and without a plan there would be no way he could do that alone. I also realized how impersonal the estate writing experience can be, as the priority focus is on tangible assets … whereas I placed a lot more emotional value on the assets online and needed to be sure it was addressed. I would never wish to have announcements reminding people of my birthday if I passed away many years prior.
Q: What are you most excited about right now? What keeps you up at night?
A: Right now digital assets are a hot topic. It is so exciting to read about the new laws that are crawling to catch up to the technological advances. It keeps me up at night, more so to remind me of how much work we need to do to keep up with the market changes!
Q: How will your NC IDEA funds advance your company?
A: Our grant funds were instrumental for our startup. Natalia and I are newcomers to the estate planning industry as we are not lawyers. NC IDEA positioned us as a credible, potential worthy startup. It gave us the credentials we needed to be a confident tech market interruptor.
While visiting Charlotte, Tatyana and Natalia recommend:
- Something unique to NC is the local pulled pork barbecue sandwich, as well as traditional southern cuisine. We recommend Mert’s Heart and Soul downtown Charlotte for low country dishes.
As for North Carolina barbecue, the more local the better. Here we’d recommend Rockstore Bar-B-Q in Stallings, NC.
